Recycling - The In Thing

Recycling is becoming more and more popular nowadays, people are far more conscientious when disposing of their rubbish than they used to be, it may be down to the fact that local councils have now got more involved, providing each home within their constituency with green wheelie bins for garden rubbish, green boxes for tins and glass, blue boxes for paper and finally and more recently black boxes for plastic containers and bottles.

This allows each and every home owner to save on their usual domestic rubbish and recycle in their own home and put the boxes and bins out for collection by the local waste disposal company.

To begin with even though the local councils had provided each home with the bins and boxes they were complaining that not many homes were getting involved in their efforts for recycling and every week the waste disposal companies would report that they were still collecting the normal wheelie bins over filled with rubbish and on many occasions extra black bin bags left by the wheelie bins when there was no room in the bins.

It was at this time the council in my local area of Birmingham decided they would reduce the amount of times the normal wheelie bins were collected meaning that the wheelie bins were collected once every two weeks instead of every week however the boxes would still be collected weekly, also they would now not allow the waste disposal companies to collect the extra bin bags that were by the wheelie bins on the fortnightly collection, this meant that unless you wanted your bins to be over flowing home owners would now have to recycle properly.

By making such changes it also increase the skip hire in Birmingham, where as before many home owners instead of hiring a skip would dispose of their decorating rubbish or larger items bit by bit in their wheelie bins they had to contact a company that dealt with skip hire in Birmingham to deliver a skip to their home to get rid of the larger items instead of breaking them down and putting them in their wheelie bins as there just wasn't the room anymore.

I hope the council keep up their good work with the fight for a greener environment.
